My Story
Hi, I'm Brittany Walker and I am honored to be your candidate for the Chesapeake School Board election in the November 8th, 2022 election. I am an educator, wife, and mom who promises to advocate for our students, school staff, and parents in Chesapeake. One of my highest priorities as a school board member will be to foster a collaborative relationship between our schools and families to offer the highest level of support possible to teachers and other school staff.
My husband (Matthew) and I live in Great Bridge with our son (Jameson) and two dogs (Bennie and Blue). I am originally from Kentucky, but Virginia has been home for the last 9 years. Matt was raised in Chesapeake and is a proud product of Chesapeake Public Schools who graduated from Oscar Smith High School. We are active members of Great Bridge Baptist Church and are thrilled to be raising our family in a city where schools have a record of excellence. It is my desire to be part of maintaining that reputation in Chesapeake.
My journey as an educator began in 2013 when I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and was hired for my first teaching position by Chesapeake Public Schools. I spent 6 wonderful years as a classroom teacher at Hickory Elementary and Grassfield Elementary before being appointed as an Assistant Principal at B. M. Williams Primary School.
During my time as a Chesapeake Public Schools educator, I continued my education, earning a Master's Degree and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University. Additionally, I hold a Certificate in School Leadership and Management from Harvard University.
My experiences as a school leader in addition to my educational background make me a uniquely qualified candidate for the school board. I believe my perspective will be a valuable asset to the board and I humbly ask for your vote on November 8th, 2022.
